Hello everyone, and welcome to the Story Listening Podcast—where, you will improve your listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency through interesting stories. I'm Alex, and joining me is Viktor. Together, we'll guide you through today's lesson.

Today’s story is called First Snowfall. It’s about a family experiences with the first snowfall of winter. The children are excited to play outside, while their mom clears the snow from the driveway. After building a snowman and playing in the snow, they warm up indoors with hot chocolate.

But, before we begin, just relax and listen. If you feel nervous, just have a glass of water and take a sip. Try to understand the main idea as much as you can.

Today is November 26th. It snowed all day today. The snow is beautiful. The snow finally stopped. My sister and I are excited. My Mom doesn't like the snow. My Mom has to shovel the drive way. My sister and I get to play. I put on my hat and mittens. My Mom puts on my scarf. My Mom zippers my jacket. My sister puts on her hat and mittens. My Mom puts on her scarf. My Mom zippers her jacket. My sister and I go outside. We begin to make a snow man. My Mom starts to shovel the snow. My sister and I make snow angels. My sister and I throw snowballs. It starts to snow again. We go inside for hot chocolate.

Let's get started!

First, we have a word: snow.

Snow is frozen water that falls from the sky when the weather is very cold.

In the story, the children are excited because it's the first snowfall of the year.

Our second word is to shovel.

to shovel means to move something using a shovel.

In the story, Mom has to shovel the driveway before the family can enjoy playing outside.

Next is driveway.

A driveway is the road that connects your house to the street.

It's where people usually park their cars.

For example,

After a snowfall, people often need to clear the driveway before they can drive anywhere.

Okay, next, mittens.

Be carefull, Mittens are different with Gloves.

Mittens are warm gloves with one space for your thumb and one space for all your fingers.

For example,

She wears mittens because it's very cold.

Let's continue with scarf.

A scarf is a long piece of cloth that you wear around your neck to keep warm.

In the story, we hear

Mom helps the children put on their scarves before they head outside.

Our next word is jacket.

A jacket is a warm piece of clothing that you wear over your shirt when the weather is cold.

Example,

I wear my jacket when it's cold outside.

Now we have one of my favorite winter words: snowman.

A snowman is a figure made of snow that looks like a person.

You know, building a snowman is a popular winter activity for children around the world.

Next is snow angel.

Do you know a snow angle is? A snow angel is the shape you make when you lie on the snow and move your arms and legs.

And, our final word today is excited.

which is feeling very happy and eager.

In the story, the children are excited because they finally get to play in the snow.
